Vase - Helios - Phaeton - in Greek mythology the sun was personified as Helios (Helius). Helios was imagined as a handsome god crowned with the shining aureole of the sun, who drove a chariot across the sky eah day to eath-circling Oceanus and throught he world-ocean returned to the East at night. Homer descirbed it as drawn by solar bulls and Pindar saw it as drawn by fire-darting steeds. Still later, the horses were given fiery names, Pyrios, Aeos, Aethon and Phlegon.. © TopFoto
