Dutch Explorer, Jan Huygens Van Linschoten. When a boy of 16 he went to Spain in the service of the Bishop of Goa, six years in India and published in 1595 a narrative of travel on the voyages of the Portuguese which served as a guide for the first Dutch expedition to the East. He also took part in an expedition to the Arctic Sea. Died when 48, (1611).
