(L) staghorn pickaxe, (M) and (R) staghorn harpoons from the Lacustrine Habitations of Switzerland. Lacustrine Habitations refer to the remains of human dwellings of great antiquity, constructed on certain lakes in Ireland, Switzerland. They seem to have been villages built on piles in the middle of a lake. According to Figuier during the Reindeer Age (outdated, unused term refers to Upper Paleolithic, Late Stone Age), bone and reindeer's horn displaced flint. Image taken from Primitive Man by Louis Figuier, 1870 (cropped and cleaned).
