Title: Lens Accommodation, Illustration
Caption: An illustration depicting the accommodation of the lens as the eye focuses on near or distant objects. Ciliary muscle contractions, taking place inside the eye, control the shape of the lens. When focusing on a distant object, the muscles relax to increase tension of the suspensory ligaments (zonular fibres) and keep the lens flattened. When focusing on a nearby object, the muscles contract, causing the suspensory ligaments to relax and allow the lens to form a rounder shape and increase its refractive power.
