Tropical walking stick insect

This is a walking stick in the Amazon rainforest in Loreto Department, Peru near the Yarapa River. Walking stick taxonomy has been fluid in recent years, but currently they are considered to occupy their own insect order, Phasmotodea. The Phasmids are obviously cryptically structured and colored to evade predation. Their name comes form the Greek "Phasmid" which means apparition or phantom.
