Clément-Bayard No 1 airship, 1908, (1932). French military semi-rigid airship designed by Adolphe Clément-Bayard (1855-1928) and made by Astra Clément-Bayard. The four large lobes at the aft end were designed to provide directional stability. Capacity: 8000 cubic metres. The No 1 later served with the Russian Army under the name Berkut ('Eagle'). From "Die Eroberung Der Luft", (The Conquest of the Air), cigarette card album produced by the Garbáty cigarette factory, 1932. Eugene and Moritz Garbáty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
