General Eisenhower Named North Atlantic Defense Force Commander -- General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower with the Sword of Honor presented to the General as a gift from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands in appreciation for his able leadership of the Allied Forces in liberating the people of Holland in 1945. This is only one of approximately forty decorations from foreign countries which have been presented to the General. The list of governments which have so honored him reads like the roster of the United Nations and includes Czechoslovakia, Poland and Russia. May 24, 1951.
