Charles Cornwallis, Governor-General of Bengal, 1792-1793. Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquis (1738-1805), served as Governor General of Bengal from 1786 to 1793 and again from July to October 1805. The painting was bequeathed in 1800 to the East India Company by William Larkins, Accountant-General during Cornwallis' first administration.
