French Aircraft Carrier Clémenceau / 1977

The Clemenceau (code R98 then, after 2002, Q-790), often nicknamed familiarly "Clem" in the navy, was the 6th aircraft carrier that entered service in the French Navy but only the 2nd one built in France (after the Béarn) and the first one designed in France from the beginning. The aircraft carrier Clémenceau marks the French military presence on the eve of the elections in Djibouti that will decide on its independence. With 1800 men on board it is ready to intervene at the slightest serious trouble. Photograph taken not far from Djibouti on April 25, 1977.
