Boston, First Subway in United States, 1897

The first subway in America for trolley car operation was opened in Boston on September 1, 1897. The original section of the subway extended from the Public Garden at Arllington Street to Park Street. A year later, the second part was completed to Scollay Square, making the length not quite 2 miles.
