Caption: Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566), German botanist, in a woodcut by Veit Rudolph Speckle. His work of 1542, De Historia Stirpium, was significant in that it featured naturalistic drawings of plants and herbs. He is considered a founding father of the study of botany.
