French Revolution. Burning of "assignats" in the Place Vendôme, Paris, on February 19, 1796. Printing presses, punches, dies, and other materials used for paper money were burned and destroyed. Engraving by Huyot after a German illustration. "Directoire, Consulat et Empire.
