Dion Boucicault (1820-1890)

Dion Boucicault (also Bourcicault, and Dionysius Lardner Boursiquot) (1820-1890) Irish-born British actor, playwright and producer. Author of Sensation Dramas. His first success came in 1841 with "London Assurance" produced by Madame Vestris. Other plays include "The Corsican Brothers" (1852) an adaptation from the French, "The Octoroon" (1859) the first play to treat seriously racial discrimination in the USA, and "The Colleen Bawn" (1860) the first of his highly successful Irish plays.
