Yamato Takeru, Japanese Folk Hero

Entitled: "Yamato Takeru no Mikoto" print shows folk hero Yamato Takeru no Mikoto about to stab a man with a sword. Prince Yamato Takeru was a Japanese legendary prince of the Yamato dynasty, son of Emperor Keiko, who is traditionally counted as the 12th Emperor of Japan. He was born circa 72 and died in 114. Today he is revered as a folk hero for his courage and ingenuity. He is said to be entombed in the Mausoleum of the White Plover. Woodcut by Yoshitoshi Taiso, published circa 1880s.
