Duke Ellington, Cat Anderson, and Sidney De Paris, Aquarium Jazz Club, New York, N.Y., ca. Nov. 1946. Duke Ellington (1899-1974) was an American composer, pianist, and leader of a jazz orchestra from 1923 until his death over a career spanning more than six decades. He was awarded a posthumous Pulitzer Prize Special Award for music in 1999.
