Palace of Charles V, Alhambra, Granada, Andalusia, Spain

Palace of Charles V, Alhambra, Granada, Andalusia, Spain. In 1526, the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V commissioned Pedro Machuca, a student of Michelangelo, to build him a Renaissance palace within the Moorish fortress of the Alhambra. Although an impressive example of Renaissance architecture in its own right, the resultant building is thought by many to be grossly at odds with the delicate Islamic architecture of the rest of the Alhambra complex.
