Insect fossilized in amber

Fossil insect in amber. Fossilized insect embedded in amber. Amber is a sticky resin produced by wounded pines and other trees. It traps small insects as it solidifies and hardens, and can preserve their bodies for many millions of years. This is one of the few processes by which fossils are preserved complete with all of their soft tissues.
