JOHN LAING PLC. Royal Navy housing, Gosport, Hampshire, 06/12/1966. A group of people including staff from the Royal Navy at the opening of married quarters in Gosport. This Armed Services' housing estate of 1000 12M Jespersen flats and houses was built by the South London Region of Laing's construction company for Royal Navy families. An article and photographs about the event were published in January 1967 in Laing's monthly newsletter 'Team Spirit'. The Commander-in-Chief of Portsmouth, Admiral Sir Frank Hopkins, is seen with two Royal Navy VCs, Jame Joseph Magennis (left) and Thomas William Gould (right) who had streets on the estate named after them.
