GIUSEPPE DIOTTI (1779-1846). ITALIAN PAINTER.. Ugolino della Gherardesca (ca. 1220-1289). Count of Donoratico. Aristocrat and naval commander of the Italian city of Pisa. Condemned to death during a revolution in 1289. He was imprisoned in the Muda (Torre dei Gualandi), together with his sons Gaddo and Uguccione, and his grandsons Nino "the Brigand" and Andelmuccio. After nine months they died of starvation. Count Ugolino in the tower. Oil on canvas by the Italian painter Giuseppe Diotti (1779-1846). Museo Civico Ala Ponzone. Cremona. Lombardy. Italy.
