Sabancaya volcano in Peru, as seen by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite on November 19, 2016. A cloud of ash has spread over the area, darkening the snow on nearby Mount Ampato, a dormant volcano. Sabancaya is a stratovolcano, fueled by magma generated at the subduction zone between the Nazca and South American tectonic plates. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the Central Andes.
