GIRLS OF THE AUXILIARY TERRITORIAL SERVICE VISIT A YORKSHIRE COAL MINE.

GIRLS OF THE AUXILIARY TERRITORIAL SERVICE VISIT A YORKSHIRE COAL MINE. : A party of the Auxiliary Territorial Service paid a visit to Hickleton Main Colliery, Thurnscoe, which is between Doncaster and Barnsley. The visit was arranged under the Army Education Scheme, the idea to give military personnel the opportunity of watching work in progress in the collieries where they saw for themselves the dangers and difficulties of coal mining. Their personal visit to the coal mine will also impress upon them the need for stringent economy in the use of fuel during the coming winter. Photo Shows: A.T.S.girls walking from the pit-shaft after watching the miners at work. United Kingdom 1942.
