Dionysus, or Bacchus, God of Wine

In Greek mythology, Dionysus was the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy. Dionysus was the youngest and the only god to have a mortal mother. He was also known as Bacchus, the name adopted by the Romans and the frenzy he induces, bakkheia. Engraving by Hendrick Goltzius, 16th century.
