1964: American soul, R&B, pop and gospel singer, songwriter ARETHA FRANKLIN, 22 (Aretha Louise Franklin, born Memphis, Tennessee, March 25, 1942). One of the best-selling musical artists of all time. At 14, 1956, recorded singing gospel at Detroit's New Bethel Baptist Church, where her father, was minister.
