Title: Orb weaver spider
Caption: Orb weaver spider (Argiope sp.) eating an earwig (order Dermaptera). This spider builds large, circular webs at ground level in grass and other low vegetation, in which it catches its insect prey. The web can be up to half a metre across and a female orb weaver spider can handle prey of double her own size. The orb weaver spider is commonly found in late summer and autumn throughout the North America. Photographed at Morro Bay, California, USA.
