Parasitic Wasp with Egg

Trichogramma is a miniscule wasp that parasitizes and kills the eggs of such insects as the cotton bollworm (Heliothis zea) and tobacco budworm (Heliothis virescens). In this scanning electron micrograph, the wasp is laying eggs in a Heliothis egg. The micrograph was prepared by placing the wasp on a cotton leaf with Heliothis eggs, and then waiting until the wasp settled on an egg. Wasp and egg were then transferred to the specimen chamber of the scanning electron microscope.
