Title: The Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy.
Caption: The Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria (a square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio) Florence, Italy. It was commissioned in 1565 and is by the sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati, the design however was done by Baccio Bandinelli before he died. The sculpture is made from Apuan Marble, and is meant to represent the Florentine dominion over the sea. It was commissioned for a wedding, and the face of Neptune resembles that of Cosimo I de'Medici, Duke of Florence/Grand Duke of Tuscany, and father of the groom.
