CATHEDRAL, MAIN FACADE.-The Holy Church Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin of Jaén is a cathedral of mainly Renaissance style, conceived in the 16th century.-On top of an old aljama mosque, it was converted into a main church, when Fernando III the Saint in In the year 1249, he reconquered the city of Jaén and ordered it to be consecrated to Don Gutierre Ruiz (1245-1249), bishop of Córdoba, at the same time that he transferred the episcopal see from Baeza to Jaén. It was initially designed in Gothic style. After suffering serious damage from the Arab incursion in 1368, it had to be demolished to continue a new one. It was necessary to rebuild again starting in 1494, under the mandate of Bishop Luis Osorio, due to the inconsistency of its walls with such bad luck that in 1525 the dome suffered a collapse, this is when the great reform was undertaken again to change to the current Renaissance construction. This adaptation was carried out in different phases, hence the different visible styles.
