The Devil's Tower National Monument, Wyoming

Devil's Tower is an igneous intrusion of volcanic rock, or monolith, rising 1267 feet (386 meters) above the Belle Fourche River. It is near Sundance in eastern Wyoming. The tower was featured in the 1977 movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind.' Devil's Tower was America's first National Monument, designated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906.
