William Farel, 16th century French evangelist. Farel (1489-1565) was a contemporay of Calvin, with whom he trained missionary preachers in Geneva to spread the Protestant cause elsewhere in Europe, particularly France. He established the Reformed Church in the Swiss cantons of Neuchatel, Bern, Geneva and Vaud.
