Artwork of a healthy human digestive system

Digestive system. Artwork showing a healthy human digestive system. Food enters the stomach (pink, upper right) where it is stored and churned up ready for digestion in the small intestine (attached tube below). As food passes into the small intestine, bile from the liver (red, upper left), which is stored and concentrated in the gall bladder (green), is released to aid the breakdown of fats. The pancreas, in the U-shaped section of the small intestine, releases digestive enzymes. Food residue then passes into the large intestine or colon (darker pink), a muscular tract in which excess water is absorbed. Some of these structures are seen in section at lower right.
