Light micrograph of Paneth cells showing very large eosinophilic granulations. They are located at the bottom of a Lieberkuhn crypt of the small intestine. Paneth cells are part of the innate immune system. They secrete anti-microbial compounds (as defensins and lysozyme) controlling the enteric bacteria.
