Peninsular War (1808-1814). Second siege of Gerona (24 July to 16 August 1808). In their first attempt to take the city, Duhesme's troops finally had to retreat, attacked by a Spanish army that came to the city's rescue and by a column of the besieged, who made a sortie. In the second siege, the French, commanded by General Honoré Charles Reille (1775-1860), planned a new attack but failed to take the city. The Napoleonic troops led by Guillaume Philibert Duhesme, were defeated. Sortie of the garrison of Gerona. Chromolithography.
