Beijing Observatory, 1747

Beijing Ancient Observatory, also known as Peking Observatory, in 1747. It was completed in 1442. Although there were no telescopes at this observatory, there were many sophisticated instruments for taking astronomical measurements, introduced in the 17th century from Western Europe, including an armillary sphere, a quadrant, a theodolite, an astronomical sextant, and a celestial globe. The people at top left, near the quadrant, give a sense of scale.
