On August 24, 1992, Hurricane Andrew blew through southern Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center, it was the most destructive US hurricane of record, with a peak gust of 164mph (measured 130 feet above the ground). The Miami homes pictured here are representative of the $26.5 billion in damage caused by the hurricane.
