Private secretary of the viceroy of Navarre, the Count of Oropesa (1637). Philip IV appointed him official of the first Secretary of State (1654). Mariana of Austria appointed him Chronicler of the Indies (1665). He was ordained a priest in 1667. Poet and playwright who stood out as a historian. Engraving by Juan Amills.
