Terracotta oinochoe: chous (jug)

Terracotta oinochoe: chous (jug). Culture: Greek, Attic. Dimensions: Diam.: 7 3/8 x 10 in. (18.7 cm) ( foot, D. 4 5/16"). Date: ca. 450 B.C..
Komast (reveler) and dancing dwarf
This representation is noteworthy for the characterization of the two figures. The tall komast advances deliberately, playing the barbitos, a form of lyre. His head is wreathed, his cloak and a chous are slung over one shoulder, and he wears soft, high boots. The dwarf before him presents a considerable contrast with his jerky movements, nudity, pugnacious expression, and straggly beard.
