Monkoullo village water carrier. The Ethiopian Empire, also known as Abyssinia, was a kingdom that spanned a geographical area in the current states of Eritrea and Ethiopia. Water carrier was a profession that existed before the advent of centralized water supply systems. A water carrier collected water from a source and transported or carried containers with water to people's homes. After the construction of pipe networks, the profession of water carrier became unnecessary and disappeared. Africa illustrated by William. R.
