Al Jazari was one of the first engineers, after the Banu Musa brothers and al-Muradi, to discover that machines can achieve an independence and 'intelligence' of their own. While the 'intellgence' of these machines will always be inferior to that of humans, machines have the advantage in that they can perform repetitive tasks over a longer period with great efficiency. Machines designed by al-Jazari include 'Castle Clock', 'Robotic Man', 'Musical Boat' and 'Elephant Water Clock'.
