Title: Diabetes I & II
Caption: Illustration comparing a healthy glucose and insulin production (top) to production in Type I Diabetes I (middle) and Type II Diabetes (bottom). Insulin (blue triangles) is produced by islet cells in the pancreas (organ at left), and acts in unison with glucose (red dots) to regulate energy in the body's cells. GLUT4 (pink) is an insulin-regulated glucose transporter. As shown, In type I diabetes there is an insufficient production of insulin, and in type II there is resistance to insulin. Both effect the body's storage and use of glucose.
