New Pictures of Danzig - Nazis Pour Into Free City.
A new picture of the inner harbour of Danzig, known as the "Long Bridge". Also in the picture are three of Danzig's landmarks. Right foreground is the 15th century Krantor gate, notable for its stone and wood construction and now adorned with the Nazi swastika. Extreme left is seen the graceful spire of the Rathaus (City hall) and in centre the solid tower of the Marienkirche, one of the city's best-known churches.
One thousand four hundred armed Germans and lorry loads of arms and munitions are reported to have arrived in Danzig from East Prussia. Rumours of an impending coup are circulating.
More than 2,000 members of the German armed forces are now said to be in Danzig, and Polish military preparations are also reported. June 28, 1939.
