Delta Clipper DC-X Test Flight

First flight of the Delta Clipper DC-X prototype; 8/18/1993. Here the DC-X blasts off. This was the first vehicle in the Delta Clipper program. The vehicle was envisioned as a reuseable single-stage rocket to provide a cheap and reliable way to get satellites into orbit. The DC-X was one-third of the size of the final design. The project is currently in limbo, after funding was cut in the mid-1990's. During this flight, the vehicle rose about 50 meters high, and maneuvered about 100 meters to one side whilst hovering. It then landed vertically on its four retractable legs.
