'Bambridge on Trial for Murder by a Committee of the House of Commons', 1803.   The Gaols Committee chairman James Oglethorpe is on the far left, seated, and questioning the prison warden Thomas Bambridge. A prisoner in a neck iron is shown kneeling before committee members. After one of Oglethorpe's friends died of smallpox in this prison Oglethrope chaired a commission investigating the conditions of the prison. He uncovered appalling living conditions, and acts of cruelty by the wardens, hence the questioning of Bambridge.
