Magnetite. Magnetite is a mineral of iron oxide (Fe3O4, iron(II,III) oxide). It is a naturally-occurring ferromagnetic and can be magnetized to become a permanent magnet. Naturally-magnetized magnetite is called lodestone. Here a piece magnetite is shown to attract steel paper clips and safety pins.
