Artist's concept of The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. The Roman Space Telescope is an infrared space observatory designed to probe the expansion history of the Universe and the growth of cosmic structure, search for and image exoplanets, and explore other topics in infrared astrophysics. It is planned to launch in the mid-2020s. The telescope is named for Dr. Nancy Grace Roman (May 16, 1925 - December 25, 2018), NASA's first Chief of Astronomy.
