Caption: 'Daniel Dancer, Esq. - The Remarkable Miser', 1821. Portrait of notorious English miser and eccentric Daniel Dancer (1716-1794), who owned land and property but wore rags, allegedly warmed his dinner by sitting upon it, and died naked in a sack. To prevent theft, he fastened his door up and got into his house through an upper window via a ladder which he drew up after him.
