Caption: The Well at Cawnpore, India. The besieged forces of the East India Company, unprepared for an extended siege, surrendered to the rebel forces in return for a safe passage to Allahabad, however their evacuation turned into a massacre, the men were killed and 120 British women and children were murdered and their remains thrown down a well to hide the evidence.
