The Shop of M.Périer, Ironwork Merchant. Artist: Gabriel de Saint-Aubin (French, Paris 1724-1780 Paris). Dimensions: sheet: 6 1/8 x 9 1/4 in. (15.5 x 23.5 cm) image: 4 15/16 x 7 1/8 in. (12.5 x 18.1 cm). Date: 1767. This design for a business card or an announcement shows an ironmonger's shop as if the façade were removed, presenting the interior as a theatrical tableau. In a setting cluttered with wares, a male customer discusses the merits of a lock with a female employee. This impression is an early, unfinished state on which the artist made certain additions in pen and ink to indicate where he intended to further work the plate.
