Lord Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), English naval commander, 1816. One of Britain's greatest military figures, Nelson was the victor at a number of naval battles in the Napoleonic Wars, including the Battle of the Nile (1798), Copenhagen (1801) and most famously, Trafalgar (1805) where he was fatally wounded. From The History of the War, from the Commencement of the French Revolution to the Present Time, volume I, by Hewson Clarke, published by T Kinnersley (London, 1816).
