Joachim von Ribbentrop, Nazi German Foreign Minister, c1938-c1945. Ribbentrop (1893-1946) joined the Nazi Party in 1932 and served as a roving ambassador before being appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1936. In 1938 he was made Foreign Minister and in this capacity he was instrumental in bringing about the Munich Agreement with Britain and France that led to the conquest of Czechoslovakia. In 1939 he played a leading role in negotiating the non-aggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact). Ribbentrop was arrested by the Allies after Germany's defeat in 1945 and he was tried for war crimes at the Nuremberg tribunal. He was found guilty of active involvement in the planning of the deportation of Jews to death camps as well as advocating the killing of Allied aircrew shot down over Germany and was executed on 16 October 1946.
