Choriomancy, Haruspex Removes Pig Bladder, 480 BC

Greek terra-cotta from South Italy, circa 480 BC. A diviner is about to remove the entrails from a sacrificial pig in order to consult the future. In the religion of Ancient Rome, a haruspex was a person trained to practice a form of divination called haruspicy the inspection of the entrails (exta), hence also extispicy (extispicium) of sacrificed animals.
